“Multi-instrumentalist Brad Hogge is backatcha, with new album 'Is it Okay If I Miss You' coming two years after 2018’s 'Dr. Grimm’s Parade'. Musical themes are emerging. Like DGP, there’s busy early R.E.M. Buck/Let’s Active’s Easter jangle in IIOIIMY’s early going. But in his melting lozenge vocals, our Mr. Hogg—while unrelated to Spinal Tap’s fictional Polymer label head Sir Denis Eaton-Hogg—is is starting to sound like a different ’80s Brit: Lawrence from Felt. There’s often a cleaner, quasi-Chills/Byrdisan guitar sound, too, than his fuzzier, neo-psych of yore; but when Hogge lays a little of it back on during the more driving “Shadows,” it’s also like a Libertines U.S., Scientists, or Died Pretty-type disc. Dandy indeed!”
